The World on Stage concert and event series takes place at the Centennial Peace Plaza (1051 Martin Luther King Blvd.) throughout the summer.

We’ll kick off with Africa Day on July 1, followed by Middle East Day on July 22; Hispanic Cultures Day on August 12, and Asian Cultures Day on Sept. 9. This summer also features Community Night, in conjunction with Famicos Foundation and our neighbors in Glenville, on August 5, and the International Music Competition in late August.
The regional events will feature music, dance, fashion shows, youth groups, cooking demonstrations and other traditional expressions of culture. Check out our events schedule for times and dates, and join us in experiencing the World on Stage. Free admission.

George Benson says “Diego is one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life.”
Guitar World magazine wrote “Next up was a true virtuoso, jazz guitarist Diego Figueiredo. Yes, we were all mesmerized by his amazing head of hair. But it was his incredibly fluid and natural performance style, his sense of true enjoyment as he dazzled us and his good-natured entertaining approach that truly grabbed us. Wow. I don’t even know what else to say. Seemingly effortless and thoroughly fabulous.”
“His musicianship - his blend of Brazilian bossa and samba tradition with classical guitar technique and jazz imagination - is utterly original and, despite years of conservatory education, remains essentially instinctual.” Allen Morrisson / DownBeat
Diego has recorded and performed with Brazil’s biggest stars including Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Roberto Menescal, Toquinho, Fafá de Belém, Angela Maria, Toninho Horta, and several years touring the world accompanying Brazil’s beloved composer and vocalist, Belchior.
For the last ten years, Diego has spent large swarths of time in North America, performing solo and in duos with the likes of Larry Coryell, Ken Peplowski, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Chuchito Valdes, Stanley Jordan and Cyrille Aimée.
Diego and Cyrille Aimée toured heavily together from 2011 – 2015. Each artist has guested several times on each other’s albums, culminating in Cyrille’s 2019 Sondheim inspired album, “Move On”, which earned each of them a Grammy Nomination for “Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals”.
Diego's previous album, "Follow the Signs," was in the Top 50 for an amazing 19 weeks on jazz radio throughout the USA. It is now being featured on Sirius/XM.

Greetings my friends
After five years of writing, recording, refining, editing, finally this music work is complete, published and I am so happy to have the opportunity to share it with you.
This music work is dedicated to being a “Baiano”, a person born in the state of Bahia in Brazil. The rich and beautiful musicality of that heavily African influenced place is so inspiring, Bahia is the place in Brazil that more songs have been written about by many composers. Joao Gilberto, Vinicius de Moraes, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Joao Bosco, Gal Costa, Jobim, Ary Barroso, just to name some. By living in the US away from my homeland it gave me distinction to elaborate songs inspired by those master's musical feelings, to slowly come up with my own version of the love for Bahia with music.
On this album I had the pleasure and blessing to have the participation of respected international names such as Diego Figueiredo, Ken Peplowski, Chuchito Valdes, and more, an incredible cast of talents at every step, carefully added. That global health problem gave us time to elaborate and put our hearts into it without hurry and here are the songs ready for you.
Enjoy it.
